A real audit

If you sold onboarding software, this is the note.

Public threads, read September 2026. Not a client and not a result. This is the page we would open on the call: answer, or leave it.

  1. 01 Answer r/SaaS
Looking for feedback on user onboarding tools. What’s worked for you?

A buyer asked what has worked. Appcues, Pendo, and UserGuiding are already named, and founders of other tools already replied. A comment belongs only if it adds a constraint the thread is missing — price at their stage, or what the tool will not do. “Try us” gets removed.

  2. 02 Leave it r/SaaS
I tracked 1,347 real chat-based onboarding sessions across 4 SaaS products.

The author is publishing their own test, not asking what to buy. There is no question to answer. Replying to insert a product is the comment that gets the account flagged.

  3. 03 Leave it r/sweatystartup
Is there a CRM that lets the customer create their own estimate?

This is a real buyer thread — Housecall Pro and Markate are already in the replies — but it is about field-service estimating. If that is not the product, we do not enter the sub to be helpful in the abstract. Wrong room.

The problem

Your buyers research on Reddit. Most brands either ignore it or get banned.

Google and answer engines quote Reddit threads. Posting as a brand once usually gets removed. Map the rooms, answer like a person, run labeled ads if you have spend.

People ask what to use

A competitor answers. You are not in the thread.

You posted once

It got removed. The brand account now looks like spam.

Google quotes Reddit

Those threads show up in search and in AI answers.

You need a system

Map the subs, answer for real, run labeled ads if you have spend.

What the call is

Twenty minutes. Not a pitch marathon.

Before we meet

We search live threads in your category. You do not fill out a form to see the calendar.

On the call

We walk through 2–3 real threads, like the audit above, and whether ads make sense.

You keep control

Ads and comments run on accounts you own.

No fake engagement

No aged accounts, vote pods, or sockpuppets. No ranking guarantee.

How delivery works

A capped monthly system, not vibes.

1. Map

Find where buyers ask. Keep 3–8 subs.

2. Voice

A one-page sheet of claims we never make.

3. Answers

Useful comments in live threads. Product only when it fits.

4. Ads

Labeled campaigns in your Ads Manager if you have spend.

5. Tracking

UTMs and optional pixel. We report leads, not karma.

6. Report

A written memo plus one call each month.

Straight answers

What we will and will not promise

Will I get banned?
We follow each sub’s rules and Reddit’s. Removals still happen. We never use secret accounts.
Do you guarantee Google or ChatGPT will name us?
No. We write so a thread can be cited. We do not sell a ranking guarantee.
Who pays Reddit for ads?
You do, in your own Ads Manager. Our fee is the work.
How much of my time?
Approve the voice sheet once. One monthly call.
What if the category is empty?
That is what the fit call is for. If buyers are not asking, we say so.
Is this a sales trap?
The button opens the calendar. No form first. If it is not a fit, we say so on the call.

Reddit marketing that does not get you banned

Written by Anton Lishanski, September 2026. This is the method, not a ranking promise.

What it is

Reddit marketing, done cleanly, is two jobs. Find the threads where buyers already ask what to use, and answer like a person who has used the category. If you have ad spend, run labeled Reddit ads from an account you own. That is the whole offer. Karma is not the metric. Leads are.

Google and answer engines quote those threads. Being present is useful. Being named by Google or ChatGPT is not something anyone can sell you.

Why a brand account gets removed

Most first posts fail for a boring reason. The account is new, the sub bans promotion, and the comment leads with the product. Moderators remove it. The next comment looks like spam because the history is only sales. A second account, bought or aged, makes it worse: Reddit treats that as ban evasion, and a thread full of fake agreement stops being worth citing.

The fix is not a cleverer disguise. It is a shorter list of rooms, a written list of claims you will not make, and comments that would still be useful if the product name were deleted.

A system, not a burst of posts

Map

Search the category the way a buyer does. Keep three to eight subs where people ask for recommendations. If that search comes back empty, stop. Ads will not create the question.

Voice

One page: what the product does, what it does not do, and the sentences we never write. Approve it once.

Answer

Comment in live threads when the product fits the constraints in the post. Say when you work with the brand. Skip threads that are a founder’s case study, a meme, or the wrong job.

Ads

Only with spend, only labeled, only in your Ads Manager. You pay Reddit. We do not run dark posts from accounts you cannot see.

Report

A written memo and one call a month. Leads and thread links, not upvotes.

What to refuse

A sample of that leave-it decision is in the audit above. Public posts, not a client story.

Questions people ask before they book

Is commenting as a brand allowed on Reddit?
Sometimes, and only inside that subreddit’s rules. Many subs ban self-promotion outright. A useful answer that discloses the relationship can stay. A disguised ad usually does not.
Should we buy aged accounts?
No. Aged accounts, vote pods, and sockpuppets are how brands get banned and how the thread stops being citable. Comments and ads run on accounts you own.
Do Reddit threads show up in Google and AI answers?
Often. Google and answer engines quote threads where people compare products. Being in the thread is not the same as a promise that your name will be the one quoted.
When do Reddit ads make sense?
When you already have spend and the subs are specific enough to target. Ads are labeled, run in your Ads Manager, and you pay Reddit directly. If the threads do not exist, ads will not invent the demand.
